Welcome to the Office of Commonwealth Preparedness
The Office of Commonwealth Preparedness has one main vision: To ensure a Virginia whose communities, businesses and government are safe, secure and prepared. For more detailed information, please see our About Us page.
Meeting the national security challenges of today's world requires collaboration and commitment from all levels of government, the private sector and citizens. With that in mind, the National Homeland Security Consortium has outlined a vision for how the nation should address homeland security in the modern era in a new white paper.

In the News
Virginia received notification on April 4, 2008 that it was one of only 20 states that had the Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan and the Public Safety Interoperable Communications Investment Justifications fully approved by the Department of Homeland Security. Virginia's state and local partnerships used to develop the plan, combined with the Public Safety Interoperable Communications regional workshops, were highly commended during the review of Virginia's submission. Read more information on the Public Safety Interoperable Communications outreach sessions.
The State Preparedness Report was submitted to the Department of Homeland Security on March 31, 2008. After several regional meetings with local and state stakeholders, this report was developed supporting our grant processes and is a blueprint of where we are going with our homeland security initiatives. Read the draft final product.
