Office of the National Capitol Region

The National Capital Region (NCR) includes the District of Columbia, Prince George’s County and Montgomery County of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia localities of the City of Alexandria, City of Arlington, City of Fairfax, Fairfax County, City of Falls Church, Loudoun County, City of Manassas, City of Manassas Park, and Prince William County.

The NCR Office oversees and coordinates federal programs for state, local, and regional authorities in the area. Responsibilities include:

  • coordinating department activities relating to the National Capital Region,
  • coordinating plans to ensure adequate planning, information sharing, training, and execution of domestic preparedness activities in the region, and
  • assessing and advocating for needed resources.

The National Capital Region has established a Senior Policy Group, which consists of two representatives each from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. The Senior Policy Group is charged with defining and implementing strategic objectives and meeting regional priorities concerning terrorist attacks. The Commonwealth of Virginia is represented on this group by the (Assistant to the Governor for Commonwealth Preparedness,Robert P. Crouch, Jr. and the Chief Deputy State Coordinator for the Department of Emergency Management, Janet L. Clements.
